i bought this cleaner for my hardly working ps3, it didnt help at all but now i suppose i should get the lens changed or something. the cleaner itself looks like the real deal, it couldnt fix broken, but probably would look after a working system!

I bought this item because my blu-ray drive was kicking the bucket so to speak and it did its job as far as cleaning up the dust in and around the area. I didn’t have too much hope and this was a premium to pay for a disc cleaner that isn’t blu-ray specific.
The disc it self is a regular dvd with two slits carefully placed to provide a cyclonic cleansing rather than direct contact and thusly cleans without harm. At the time of my ps3 was not playing blu-rays this dvd did it’s job and after so i just replaced the bluray laser itself.

I decided to purchase this as I have a DVD player which seems to have become ‘unresponsive’ to some DVD’s. Upon receiving it a week ago, I have cleaned 3 DVD players, an HD-DVD, PS3, and 3 PC DVD drives.
While it *seems* like the DVD player in question is working better now, I’m not entirely convinced it’s all in my head. Adding to this doubt is the video they run while the cleaning process is taking place — it just seems cheesy.
With that said, I was going to rate this as 4-stars. If I had a definite problem (and this fixed it), I would have rated it 5. Conversely, if I had a definite problem (and it still remained), I would have rated this lower.
As noted above, I said I “was” going to rate as 4-stars. However, I’m rating it as 3-stars as I also tried looking up the patent on this (as it says it’s patended technology). I was hoping upon reading it, it would either make me feel that much better about the purchase (or worse). Unfortunately, they don’t list the patent # (which is odd as it doesn’t say patent pending), and, at least with my limited search, I can’t find anything about it. This makes me question just how good it is.
I did find on their website warning about standard DVD brush cleaners, that they could damage an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player, and would be releasing this thing around March 2008. And I know that it takes a long, LONG time for the patent process to go it’s full course. Nonetheless, at the moment, it sounds a bit like marketing puffery.
Would I recommend this? As it’s allegedly the *only* safe cleaner for an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player, yes. If/when there is an alternative, depending on if said alternative seemed more legit, my opinion might change.

Do not use the old cleaning disc on your Blu-ray player. It will screw it up,trust me.This is the perfect way to clean your Blu-ray player. No brushes, just a small hole on each side of the disc.
